Happy Easter!

Things have been pretty laid back this Easter weekend, which I don't mind at all. :) Particularly in light of the constantly crazy business of the week. A little extra sleep and low key activities are always a good thing.

We went to a large art festival in St. George yesterday and enjoyed the creative output of people from all over the area. As well as a little sun, which I may be a little less than excited about... The park where the festival was held was pretty cool, with a little shallow river running through the pavilion-like area. Brandon and I dipped our feet in the cool water for awhile before walking down through the little river dodging children. Very pretty.

In other news, one of my uncles, my Uncle Scott, passed away yesterday morning. Both sides of my family are pretty spread out and, as a result, I didn't know my Uncle Scott very well. Which, in and of itself, makes me somewhat sad. My Uncle's passing didn't come as a complete surprise, as I knew he wasn't in very good health, but I'm still sad to see him go, though I'm happy to see him released from the physical pain he was going through.

I hope you all have a lovely Easter!

Temporary Physics Tutor?

As the handful of you who read this know, I've been struggling more with my physics class than I have with just about anything else I've ever done. It's rough. I need a tutor. Easy if I were down in Provo, difficult up here in Salt Lake.

However, at least for these couple of chapters that I'm currently poring over that all deal with light and optics (as opposed to the ones just before this that were all about circuits and different types of current), things have had a remarkable turn up in comprehension. Who/what do I have to blame for this?

Brandon, of course.

In this space of time while I still struggle with finding a tutor, Brandon has (practically unasked - I was voicing my frustration but somehow neglected to actually ask him if he'd help me) started working with me, having me explain the various concepts I've been learning about and going through the questions with me. And amazingly, I feel a much greater comprehension for what I'm currently studying than anything I've yet studied.

Which leaves me to wonder a little if perhaps the fact that he's not taking the class (and never has) makes him a better study companion. I'm fully aware that often those who excel most in this subject aren't the best at explaining it. Perhaps somewhat comparable to why native speakers of a language aren't always the best at teaching that language as a second language. They have an intuitive grasp of the language, but never had to work through the complexities of how the language actually functions - complete with all the oddities and unexplainable phenomena.

Summary: At least for the moment, things are very much bearable in my physics studies, an altogether new feeling with this subject.

Life Lately. :)

I'm feeling a bit too lazy to split some of my recent adventures into separate posts. So, here's a few of the latest documentation of events of late.

Watching from the sidelines!

Legit Italian pizza with Amy and Justin!
We also went to my St. Patrick's Day work party last night complete with Irish dancers, Irish music, and Irish food. And Brandon and I did a few Ceili dances as well! :) Hopefully I'll be able to snag some pictures from Tristyn from the evening.

West Coast Swing Dance tonight!

Unhappy to Happy

Today was a terrible day. There were highlights of normal, good, whimsical, and comical, but it wasn't a good day. The stress had been piling rather high over the last week concerning an exam I had to take. I finally took it today and, despite my best efforts, came away with the lowest score I have ever received on a test. Really. And after all that time spent studying!

Needless to say, following said exam I wasn't in the best of places. A good conversation with my wonderful supportive parents later and I was in a slightly better place.

However, somehow after a terrible day, Brandon, my incredible man that he is, was able to take my unhappy state and make me happy. While I borrowed his bath for a hot soak he (lighting a candle to add to the relaxing mood as he dashed from the bathroom) whisked away to procure some delicious edibles (Sawadee! Thai! Custard and Sweet Sticky Rice!). All forms of candy and dessert at my disposal, several episodes of Big Bang Theory, and some quality time spent in his company, and I was chipper as can be.

Is he wonderful? Yes, he is.

Happy St. David's Day!

It has been several years since I've "properly" celebrated St. David's day, but this year I'll be going down to the old stomping grounds and celebrating my Welsh professor and the many other lovers of Wales and everything Welsh.

Cymru am byth! Wales forever!

Between this and preparations for a St. Patrick's Day work party/event coming up in a few weeks, I feel like I've really been getting in touch with my Celtic side a bit more lately. This used to be an area I was obsessed with and it is amazing how distant I've been from it the last several years. That makes me a bit sad, as I really do love all things Celtic in nature, but as I've enjoyed the other things I've become familiar with and interested in, I can't really complain. I'll just have to figure out how to incorporate my love for some of my favorite things into my regular life a little better...
